how does one SELL a Carbon Tax?

This weekend the Federal Government plans to announce a price on pollution as the central element of a policy which aims to tackle climate change.

On Monday there will be a Carbon Tax Forum with Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey at Mackillop College Hall, Buckland Road, Nundah Just up the hill from Wayne Swan’s Electorate Office) trying to sell a simple message. "Don't buy a Carbon Tax".

It would appear (with the support of the Greens & a few independent, the legislation will pass through the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The carbon Tax is not about you or I.

Who will pay?

If one has a look at the NGERs database on the Australia Government's Department of Climate Change & Energy efficiency website. one can actually see who Australia's top emitters are.

I had to pull the data into excel and sort it to get a list.

Unfortunately there was to much data to post on this blog so here is a taste of the Top 30:

If one then starts looking at the financial reports, for these companies, then paying around $23/tonne, is not going to send any of them broke, or have them moving offshore or going to dramatically increase the costs of the products that they make.

I hope the Government can cut through with some simple messages about a complex problem. We have to start somewhere.
